What we believe

Legalise cannabis

The criminalisation of cannabis use disproportionately harms young people and indigenous people, leads to massive levels of violence and corruption, and fails to curb youth access. Free the weed! Change the law!

Roadside drug testing

Roadside drug testing detects presence of THC, but not impairment. Since THC can stay in the system for days or weeks after use, this is unfair. Patients on medicinal cannabis have to choose between the right treatment and the ability to earn money or take their children to school. No other prescription drug is treated in this way. Australia is the only country that does not test for impairment. This needs to change.

Hemp - the wonder crop

Hemp is an incredible crop with hundreds of uses and environmental benefits. It takes 25 years for trees to sequester the same amount of carbon per hectare as a single rotation of hemp. Hemp can be used for building, insulation, food and to make clothes, paper, medicine, plastic, and more. This is a multi-billion dollar industry that will benefit farmers and create regional manufacturing jobs.

Mental health

Funding for mental health is at 6 per cent of the health budget, but the need is estimated at 15 per cent. Almost 60,000 people each year don't receive the treatment they need. We promote innovative treatments such as psylocybin and MDMA for depression and PTSD. Suicide is the major killer of our young people - we can and must do more.

Social justice

Cannabis prohibition impacts vulnerable communities the hardest. If you are Aboriginal and caught with a small quantity of cannabis, you have an 80 per cent chance of going to court. If you are non-Aboriginal, your chance of a court appearance is just 50 per cent. If you are LGBTQIA+ you are almost three times more likely to use cannabis than if you are straight. We champion the underdog and believe in a just and fair society.
