NSW Premier Chris Minns has indicated that our RDT laws for medicinal cannabis patients should be a part of the upcoming NSW Drug Summit.
Questioned by Legalise Cannabis MP Jeremy Buckingham, Mr Minns has thrown a lifeline of hope to the estimated 300,000 medicinal cannabis patients in NSW.
"This is an issue that I, and hundreds of thousands of people in NSW, are faced with every day," Mr Buckingham told the Premier.
"Thousands of people in this State have lost their licences, their jobs, their relationships because we are continuing to test for the presence of medicinal cannabis which massively impacts on medicinal cannabis patients, who have a legal prescription."
Mr Minns accepted that impairment and detection are separate.
"The challenge for the Government is that there is no test for impairment," he said.
"One of the reasons we are pursuing a Drug Summit is to look at issues in the law like this and I expect that the Drug Summit will look specifically at that issue."
